Shawn D. Matthijetz joined Basham & Scott in 2024 and is admitted to the Texas Bar. Shawn is a member of the Insurance Law Section of the State Bar of Texas. Prior to becoming licensed, he worked as a legal clerk with various law firms working cases that involved civil litigation and probate law.
Shawn graduated Magna Cum Laude from Concordia University Texas in 2021 with a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and a Bachelor of Business Administration in International Business. During his time at Concordia University Texas, he served as Student Body President and held several other leadership positions within other collegiate organizations. Shawn earned his Juris Doctorate from the University of Houston Law Center in 2024 and served as Executive Vice President of his Student Bar Association as well as President of the Corporate and Tax Law Society. During law school, Shawn won 1st in the Fall 2023 State Bar of Texas Insurance Law Section Student Writing Competition with his paper titled “Navigating Uncharted Territory: Insurance Coverage in the Era of Autonomous Vehicles.”
Outside of practicing law, Shawn enjoys spending time his family and volunteering for organizations such as the Eugene Scassa Mock Organization of American States and Texas Collegiate DECA.
